Journey to the Jamboree
The Jamboree will be an experience like no other for participants and IST alike. As IST you will be working hard to support the Jamboree and we want to ensure that you are well prepared to maximise your time on site.
You can read a bit about the Jamboree here. We want to ensure in advance of the Jamboree you get the training you need, have the opportunity to meet other IST and gel as a team.
We hope this will also assist you in spreading the word about the Jamboree and allow you to fundraise together.
The UK Contingent Management Team will deliver a unique international adventure shaped by young people, where contingent members will develop personally and have a positive longer term impact on Scouting and beyond.
To achieve our vision, all members of the Contingent have the opportunity to participate in the UK Contingent Personal Development Award. Set your goals now.
Working with local Units
We asked you to express an interest in working with Units. We have now selected an IST Lead for each Jamboree Unit, and you can find a list of these people here. If you are interested in working with a Unit please make contact with the IST Lead for that Unit.
Getting involved with a Unit is a great opportunity to increase your pre-Jamboree involvement, enhance the Jamboree journey for the young people in the Unit, and maybe even tick off some of your Personal Development goals.
If you are already in contact with a Unit, please make yourself known to the relevant IST Lead so they can coordinate attendance at events and ensure Units only have one IST point of contact.
IST Leads have also been asked not to share Unit Leader details in order to respect privacy and maintain a single point of contact.
Here are a few suggestions of how you could be involved:
- Deliver a training session or permitted activity,
- Be an extra hand on Unit camps,
- Where appropriate help the young people with their Personal Development Goals and the UK Contingent Award;
- Support delivery of the North America in a Bag programme; and
- Be a familiar face for the young people at the Jamboree.
In addition to these ideas in February ISTea TImes we told you that we have allocated up to £100 for IST to deliver activities and training that will contribute towards young people’s personal development. If you have an idea, contact your local IST Lead.
IST Top Tips Telecons
Not been to a Jamboree before? Are you an infrequent traveller? Or, do just want to know more about the Jamboree? Then join our IST Top Tip Telecons. This series of webinars will help to prepare you for the Jamboree.
As IST you are expected to work hard during the Jamboree to deliver a fantastic experience for the participants. You also need to maximise your Jamboree experience during your time off.
To deliver on this you need to look after yourself at the Jamboree. You may be working long days, face challenges and be working with new people. By thinking through these situations now we hope you can prepare yourself.
We have put together a handy guide to preparing for the Jamboree contained within the ‘What have I missed?’ section of the website under ‘Staying Awesome!’
Keeping healthy at the Jamboree will ensure you stay happy and enjoy the Jamboree. Make sure you prepare and don’t hide your Jamboree trouble. There will people to support you!
