Travel Places is the Travel Provider to the UK Contingent to the 24th World Scout Jamboree.
About Travel Places
Travel Places is a family owned company based on the south coast in West Sussex, which specialises in providing travel solutions for major organisations and events around the world.
For over 40 years, we have delivered top class travel arrangements for youth groups, sporting teams, supporters, spectators and the media, catering for events both big and small. As well as delivering travel solutions for major sporting events such as Formula 1, the America’s Cup, the Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games, Travel Places also create and deliver tailor-made travel solutions for schools, educational and youth groups and are proud to have provided travel arrangements to members of The Scout Association since 2010.
Over the last few years, our Scouts department has grown to become one of the market leaders in the Scout and youth travel sector. We have successfully supported the UK Contingent in a number of previous international Scout events including:
- 13th World Scout Moot in Kenya (2010)
- Roverway in Finland (2012)
- 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan (2015)
- 15th World Scout Moot in Iceland (2017)
Our relationship continues as we work alongside The Scout Association to organise and deliver forthcoming travel arrangements for Roverway in Holland (2018) and of course the 24th World Scout Jamboree in the USA (2019).
Aside from these major international Scouting events, Travel Places works with Scout groups on a national, County and District level to arrange anything from a full package to standalone components such as flights, accommodation or transfers.
As avid volunteers within the Scouting and youth adventure community, our team knows what it takes to plan, organise and manage a tour and will make sure you’re more than prepared for your next adventure. From watching an eclipse on the West Coast of the United States, to trekking the Inca Trail in Peru, staying at an international Scout Centre and organising travel to amazing international events such as national Jamborees, providing you with the opportunity to roll-up your sleeves, get involved with community projects and really experience local culture in destinations around the world – Travel Places create unforgettable worldwide experiences that feed your sense of adventure and develop mind, body and soul.
Travel Places Team
Melanie has worked in the travel industry for twenty years and has spent the last five as Event
Operations Manager at Travel Places. Having worked with a wide range of clients, across multiple
types of event, Melanie has amassed a vast and varied experience of the many facets of team and
event travel. Melanie currently manages some of our biggest accounts including The Football
Association and The Scout Association leading her own team from the front in delivering great
service, dedication and passion to all her projects.
Melanie also has a long Scouting background and has been a Venture Scout Leader, an Explorer
Leader, a training Advisor and part of the East Sussex County Committee in her time. She worked for
The Scout Association as Deputy Jamboree Manager for the 21st World Scout Jamboree in the UK and
travelled with the Canadian Contingent to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan.
John really has found his true vocation, having worked all of his life in travel, with the last 15 years spent in a number of roles with Travel Places. During this time he has worked on a wide variety of projects, including Formula 1 and the last two football World Cups. Working alongside Emily during the World Scout Jamboree in Japan inspired John to want to work full time on the youth group side of the Travel Places business. As he says “I really got great satisfaction from my involvement across all elements of the Japan event and so I jumped at the opportunity to join the Scouts Department full time 18 months ago”.
Kirsty has worked in Travel for 6 years but really wanted to combine her passion for the travel industry with event management. Kirsty joined us in May and has been working with quite a few different projects.
Kirsty says ”My first major scouting event was Roverway 2018 in Holland, it was such an amazing experience to see Scouts from all over Europe and many different backgrounds come together to support each other and build life long friendships.”
Kirsty is involved in a lot of different elements of the Jamboree including the New York experience and she is also supporting individual patrols going on their international trips around the world.
Holly has studied Travel and Events Management at University Holly decided to take a placement year at Travel Places and helped prepare for the 23rd WSJ in Japan. Once she finished her degree she was keen to get stuck back into the travel industry.
Holly says ‘”I am very excited to see all of the hard work from the TSA and staff at Travel Places come together to make a fantastic 24th World Scout Jamboree.’’
Holly is predominantly looking after the Post Event in Washington and is working hard to cover as many different elements to make it a once in a life time experience.
