About Travel Places
Travel Places is a family owned company based on the south coast in West Sussex, which specialises in providing travel solutions for major organisations and events around the world.
For over 40 years, we have delivered top class travel arrangements for youth groups, sporting teams, supporters, spectators and the media, catering for events both big and small. As well as delivering travel solutions for major sporting events such as Formula 1, the America’s Cup, the Olympics, Paralympics and Commonwealth Games, Travel Places also create and deliver tailor-made travel solutions for schools, educational and youth groups and are proud to have provided travel arrangements to members of The Scout Association since 2010.
Over the last few years, our Scouts department has grown to become one of the market leaders in the Scout and youth travel sector. Emily Sanders, well known to many of you as our Scout Team Manager, has been with us throughout that journey and under her watchful eye, we have successfully supported the UK Contingent in a number of previous international Scout events including:
- 13th World Scout Moot in Kenya (2010)
- Roverway in Finland (2012)
- 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan (2015)
- 15th World Scout Moot in Iceland (2017)
Our relationship continues as we work alongside The Scout Association to organise and deliver forthcoming travel arrangements for Roverway in Holland (2018) and of course the 24th World Scout Jamboree in the USA (2019).
Aside from these major international Scouting events, Travel Places works with Scout groups on a national, County and District level to arrange anything from a full package to standalone components such as flights, accommodation or transfers.
As avid volunteers within the Scouting and youth adventure community, our team knows what it takes to plan, organise and manage a tour and will make sure you’re more than prepared for your next adventure. From watching an eclipse on the West Coast of the United States, to trekking the Inca Trail in Peru, staying at an international Scout Centre and organising travel to amazing international events such as national Jamborees, providing you with the opportunity to roll-up your sleeves, get involved with community projects and really experience local culture in destinations around the world – Travel Places create unforgettable worldwide experiences that feed your sense of adventure and develop mind, body and soul.
Travel Places Team
Born and bred in Wales, Emily has worked in group travel for 13 years, and 9 years ago joined Travel Places to establish the Scouts Department. For Emily, a major highlight of that time was working on the World Scout Jamboree in Japan and as she says “it was an incredible event to be involved in and although it was challenging at times I am extremely proud to have delivered a life changing experience to so many young people” This Jamboree will be the 6th UK Contingent event that she has managed on behalf of The Scout Association and Emily, working with her team is confident that “the next Jamboree is all set to be even bigger and better!!”
John really has found his true vocation, having worked all of his life in travel, with the last 15 years spent in a number of roles with Travel Places. During this time he has worked on a wide variety of projects, including Formula 1 and the last two football World Cups. Working alongside Emily during the World Scout Jamboree in Japan inspired John to want to work full time on the youth group side of the Travel Places business. As he says “I really got great satisfaction from my involvement across all elements of the Japan event and so I jumped at the opportunity to join the Scouts Department full time 18 months ago”. .
Throughout his career, Darren has worked within the youth travel industry and has been actively involved in all aspects of planning, creating and delivering inspiring travel itineraries. Everything from creating bespoke travel programmes, to leading various groups overseas, to managing UK based travel departments and overseas centres, including ski resorts & water-sport centres, for British school groups. As a result he’s developed a huge and varied wealth of knowledge and experience which he has put to great use when arranging the Additional Tours for the World Scout Jamboree in Japan and the Moot in 2017 and in Darren’s words “perhaps, in my career, the trip I most wanted to travel with” – the Salisbury District Scouts Trip to Yellowstone Park, USA to see the Great Solar Eclipse in 2017.
