Since the 21st World Scout Jamboree, the UK Contingent has offered communications training for young people. For this Jamboree the Contingent will be offering six one-day courses. The courses will be open to two young people and the Communications Champion from each Unit.
The courses will provide young people with the skills and knowledge to talk about the Jamboree within the Scout brand framework. Guidance on selecting young people can be found here. The training for Communications Champions will further develop the skills shared at Unit Leader 1 and in the series of Webinars.
The training will be open to up to two young people (who are members of The Scout Association) from each Unit.
The dates for the one-day training course in England are as follows:

Any Unit can attend any course, but the young people and Communications Champion from each Unit should attend on the same day. We hope to allow Units their first choice of date but expect the Gilwell courses in particular to be heavily subscribed so may have to allocate your second choice.
We have compiled a series of FAQs below; if you have a query that is not covered here please contact us.
Can I attend any of the training days?
Yes, although you should ensure that the Communications Champion and two young people from your Unit attend the same event. Please note that we expect the Gilwell Park events in particular to be heavily subscribed.
How should I choose young people to participate?
Guidelines for the selection of young people for SSU training can be found here.
Do Communications Champions and SSU participants need to attend the same course?
While the Communications Champion and SSU training will be largely separate, the course is a great opportunity for Communications Champions and SSU-trained young people to get to know each other. As such we ask that the Communications Champion and the two young people from each Unit all attend the same course.
When will joining instructions be sent out?
We will issue joining instructions around four weeks before the course you have registered for.
What time does the course start and finish?
Young people and Communications Champions should arrive at the course venue between 9am and 9.30am, and the course will finish by 4pm.
Do Communications Champions or young people need to bring anything?
Further details will be provided in joining instructions around four weeks before the course.
Catering is not provided and participants should bring their own lunches. Snacks and refreshments will provided throughout the day.
If you decide to camp before or after the course, then you will need to bring your own camping, cooking equipment and food for meals outside of those provided on the course.
Will there be any pre-course learning?
Young people attending SSU training will be expected to complete some brief pre-course learning which will be sent out with joining instructions around four weeks before the course. This will take no more than 15 minutes to complete.
Can I stay at the venue the night before and/or after the course?
We will not be providing accommodation for the training days, but you can organise accommodation directly with the venues.
If you are camping you will be responsible for the young people outside of the course running period, and the completion of the appropriate forms.
More information on the Nights Away can be found here.
Will food be provided?
Participants and Communications Champions should bring their own packed lunches. Snacks and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Will there be a course in Scotland?
We are organising a course for November 2018 for Units from Scotland, and will publish further details as soon as we have them.
Will there be a course in Northern Ireland?
Unfortunately we are unable to run a course in Northern Ireland and recommend you attend one of the courses at Linnet Clough.
